Lightship Group was tasked with performing a dockside repair contract for the Maritime Administration. That period
ran from September of 2003 to January of 2004 when the vessel left on its annual Sea Term. Lightship tasks included
creating a new Navigation Classroom and Navigation Lab on the 03 deck, complete with new wiring, piping, stiffening
the deck, fire protection, ventilation and windows. Lightship installed two new salad bars with all connections,
replaced a A/C fan coil, created a new battery rack, modified the existing Battery Room, installed new 24VDC power
converters in emergency power circuits, rebuilt and ER Supply Fan, insulated the top of the stacks, fabricated and
installed new manhole covers for the AMR, fabricated and installed new piping for the Nyrex Booster Pump and condensate
return, ultrasonically cleaned the SSTG lube oil coolers, installed new isolation valves for the potable water system,
designed and fabricated and installed new Aux Condensate Pump Suction Strainers, installed a new #1 SSTG Aux
Condenser SW Cooling Crossover Valve, fabricated and installed new Emergency Egress Ladders from the bottom of #2
Cargo Hold to the Main Deck, completely redid the Officer’s Laundry and replaced 60% of the laundry deck, rebuilt
two Hamworthy sewage pumps, completely rebuilt the In Port Feed Pump, installed transits in the new classroom and lab,
repaired the Wartsilla Diesel Control Board, repaired the Bridge deck and made new foundations for the radars, and
insulated the Engineering Lab.
